Still a great site. always nice to hear from comrads in the B-47. A correction is needed on my entry of 6/25/06. I was stationed at Mountain Home AFB three weeks after graduating from flying school in 1955. Entry should read 55 thru 57 instead of 65 thru 67. My mistake? Carl Fleece L/C

I loved the site. As a young man I was B-47 mechanic and loved working on the airplane at MacDill AFB 1960-1962 and at Lockbourne AFB 1962-1964. At the time I did not realize how important the B-47 was to our national security but as I fade into my senior years I am so proud of time I spent on the fight line with the airplane. gall1114@aol.com

Tuesday, July 22nd is the anniversary of a B-47 Stratojet Bomber that crashed in a small country town named “Marianna” located in Northwest Florida. The crash occurred on July 22, 1952 and killed all four crewmembers and two children. The crewmembers were: Major Frederick E. Ewing, 31; Capt. Oscar W. Yon, 28; Capt. Richard E. Francis, 28; Capt. James H. Forman, 29 and the two children were Rufus Floyd Williams and Peggy Dianne Williams. If memory serves me correct, the B-47 tail number was 081. The B-47 was stationed at MacDill AFB and was on a High Speed Low Level Training Mission when it crashed.

I came to this site from a link on the Oct 57 crash of Colonel M. McCoy at Pinecastle AFB Orlando, Florida. My father, J.D. Stone was a B47 pilot there from 1956 to 1961 when he was transferred to Lockbourne AFB Ohio. He retired August, 1964 and with other retired SAC pilots formed Executive Jet Aviation under the leadership of General O.F. Lassiter. It is now NetJets. daviddcstone@cs.com

I’ve learned a lot from this site, and have even come into contact with a few people stationed at Lockbourne AFB at the same time as my father. My father, 1st Lt. Theodore L. Jenner was killed in a B-47 crash near Lancaster, Ohio, on February 26, 1958. Three other crew members died in the crash as well -- 1st Lt. George M. Reiley, 1st Lt. Alvin B. Storey, and 1st Lt. Earl N. Fogle. My father graduated 54-F, 3640th Pilot Training Wing at Laredo. While at Lockbourne, he was assigned to the 10th SRS and I believe participated in Operation Home Run, at Thule Air Base in Greenland. I’m compiling information about the crash and the other men killed. If anyone has memories of the crash or knew any of the men who died, please contact me at cjenner00@yahoo.com.

I was stationed at Pease AFB from 1955-1959 and was assistant crew chief to Floyd Curry. I later became crew chief. The B-47 was the first to arrive at Pease and was named "The State of New Hampshire" The flight crew was pilot..Capt J.D. Craven, C/P 1/lt C.E. Brown, Observer Capt J.N. Cathey.The bird # was 53-1905.She was sent to the Davis Monthan bone yard with only 1700 hours on her and the replacement was in pretty bad shape. I found out after reading the acft records that she was the ill famed bird from the Jimmy Obenauf story. acft 52-0278. Those were some great days.
