14 Feb 04 I am in the process of researching and writing the history of an operation which took place during the Cuban Missile Crisis. A missing piece of my story is the incident regarding the B-47 which we lost at MacDill during October or November of '62. This crash impacated on many of us. I would like to hear from anyone with information regarding the specific date and other details related to that crash. My e-mail address is raineyc@aol.com. Please indicate "B-47 Crash" in the subject line.
Please visit my site on RAF GREENAM COMMON. I have many B-47 pictures to share. www.megspace.com/politics/greenham/index.htm Email Jonathan at: fencer_js@yahoo.com

My father was an EWO on a EB-47 out of Lockbourne AFB, he made full Col. in 1978. He has had nothing but fond memories about this aircraft when we talk of it.
Nice site. The 55th guys have published a book that has pix of Forbes AFB,Acft and troops. You might look at that and post a few pix from it. Bob Munger, 55th A&E
At age 70, I'm finally on the WEB...discovered what I've been missing. I'm a former ECM operator on the B-47 Phase V capsule aircraft. Stationed at Hunter and later Lockbourne. I was on crew L-68V, commanded by Lieutenant Shelton. Can you imagine 2 First Lieutenants, 2 Second Lieutenants and a lonely Staff Sergeant (me) flying in this beautiful, sleek creation. I remember Capt Savoca and Major Lappo. Both were fine Officers. I owe my 33+ years and retirement as a Lt Colonel to the tutelege and mentorship of Lt's Shelton and Johnson. We were the youngest crew in SAC in 1958-59..More later!
I forgot to tell you who I am: Ron Harris, Lt Col RET..presently living in Little Rock, AR. rvnvetron@earthlink.net Great Web Site!!!
I came upon your website while looking for informatin on my old unit(55th Recon Wing)out of Forbes AFB Kansas, which is now closed. I was with the 55th A&E Maint Sgdn from Jan 1954 thru 1957. I saw there was a Bob Munger from the 55th dated 2/24/04 and was wondering what period of time he was with the 55th? I was on 60-day TDY's to Benguerer (French Morrocco), Mildenhall (England), Wheelus (Libya), and Incirlik (Turkey). I would like to correspond with anyone who might have been there at the same time. Charlie Wilkins (e-mail: charlie@horizon.atmos.colostate.edu)
Former A/1c Tony Ascanio, bomb/nav, 9th A&E, 9th Bomb Wing Mtn. Home AFB Idaho Dec'55-Dec'58 checking in. Just became life time member, what are you waiting for? At SAC reunion at Castle AFB museum was allowed to go up in 20166; brought back lots of memories. The BNS in all there, all the amplifiers in the CAU & SAU, the stab unit, the big radar indicator, the SN-147 and all those coax connectors that used to fix the intermittents, except some one canablilzed the tracking handle. As we used to say at Mtn Home, "when in doubt, run in circles, jump and shout, Canabilize!" It was the last official recorded B-47 flight and ferried from China Lake where it sat in the desert for 20 years for the Navy bombing range, they never did hit it!
I am a former B-47 pilot at Forbes in the 98th SRW and on a bomb crew at Lincoln in the 98th BW, 415th BS. Looking for my navigator Bill Turner. I last had contact with him in the late 60's when he was an IN at McConnell. I suspect he went into B-52's. Any knowledge of Bill please let me know. Thanks, Bob Bowman. bbowman@northhighland.com
I was stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base from late 1957 to 1961 and worked on RB-47's and KC-97's as a Radio-Radar technician; also worked as an aircraft flight debriefer for maintaince on this equipment. When I arrived at Little Rock the National Guard was still stationed at the High School enforcing the integration of students there. I don't remember the year but I witnessed an RB-47 crash on the runway; doing new crew training; touch and go landings and appeared to pull up too fast; stalled, went over on one wing and exploded; 6 good men gone to Glory!!! I was in the 368 BS 306 BW on the first B-47 that arrived at MacDill AFB Tampa, Florida Aug. 1951. It was the most beautiful aircraft I had seen. I was one of the A&P mechanics assigned to S/N 0030. I can reached at pwolfe@copper.net
I think this is a real great web site, i can enjoy showing my kids and my grand kids the air plane that I worked on for 8 years. Keep up the great work. Don Persinger South Sioux City, NE. <airforce_two@hotmail.com>
Ron Harris. I was stationed at Hunter (308th BW) and later Lockbourne (301st BW) as an enlisted ECM Operator. Remember the Phase V capsule program? My crew was L-68V commanded by lLt Franklin D. Shelton. Other crewmembers: CP; Lt McCoullough, N; 1Lt Johnson, 1st ECM; Lt Revelis, and of course, me at 2nd ECM. I was a former RB-36 ECM at Ellsworth and Ramey. Crew S-32, commanded by Maj Dale Harkrader. Thanks largely to Lts Shelton and Johnson, I left Lockbourne in late 1959 to attende OCS. As a Navigator, I flew KC-135's for 10 years and C-130's for 18 years, retiring as a LtCol from the 314th Airlift Wing here in Arkansas. This is a great site! I just got on the internet a few weeks ago and have practically lived here since.
