Glad to have the guest book working again. Got your e-mail Jim Diamond, will return answer after I submit this comment. There is one thing about the guest book that bugs me, that is the new comments go to the bottom of the list. It would be so much easier to read the new ones if they went to the top of the list, as does the B-52 association guest book. Thanks. James H Brown, MSGT (Ret), member since 1996.

My name is Aaron J Dicello, CMSGT (RET). I just found your web site and it brought back a lot of good memories. I was with the 301st BW, 301st FMS at Lockbourne from 1959-1962. I was a Structural repairman working on the EB-47 and KC-97. I left in 1962 and went to the 53rd WRS at Kindley Burmuda and we had WB-50s, we move to Hunter in 1963 when we got the WB-47s. We moved to Ramey in 1966 and we had WB-47s and WC-130s. My fondess memory of the B-47 is Maj Lappo flew it under the Makinaw Bridge in Michigan. Thanks for your site.

was ground crew, crew chief and nco of night crew on the wonderful and beautiful RB-47, with the 3rs SRS, 26th SRW, stationed @ Lockbourne AFB. one day, a movie crew visited our squadron. they started filming a moyion picture, using my plane and ground crew. we later found out that the picture that they were making was, "STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND' starring Jimmy Stewart. of course mr. stewart never appeared on our base, and all of the scenes that we were in were later cu ot before the pictures release. too bad, i could have been a movie star.:))

This is a great site for those who served and flew the B-47. I have been reading the comments for a couple of years. I never flew or served with the B-47 crews but from 1965 to 1969 I served with the 306 Bomb Wing at McCoy AFB. Participated in the "ARC LIGHT" and "YOUNG TIGER" campaign in Southeast Asia. I grew up with a love/hate the B-47 as a child, as I was a survivor of a B-47 crash. I use to read all I could about the B-47. The B-47 that crashed into my house was from the 306 Bomb Wing.

Are there any pilots around who flew the B-47D Turboprop This would have been a great aircraft except for a trouble plagued engine I have still been proposing High Speed Propellers We could save 25 to 35 % of all fuel consummed. I am currently researching the RAF station Brize Norton England where I believe the B-47E Stratojet was stationed. THe information which I hope you will be able to help me with is the very last B47E to depart from this base. It's aircraft designated number call sign destination, names of the crew and any relevant information on this particular jet. I believe the last B-47E departed on or about the 1 April 1965 nearly 40 years ago when the Base was Handed back to RAF Transport Command. I hope you will be able to help with my quest yours in anticipation C M Cook - Clifford.cook216@btinternet.com

Gentlemen: I am a former SAC B-52 aircraft commander, now writing about aviation and aerospace history. I'm researching an upcoming article for Air and Space Smithsonian magazine about SAC air and ground crew experiences during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. I would like to talk to air or ground crew who participated in the extended airborne and ground alert operations in Oct-Nov 1962, in hopes of recognizing their efforts in assuring deterrence during those harrowing days. If you are willing to share stories or photographs of that event, please send an email to p47storyATcox.net (using an @ symbol instead of AT, of course, in the address). Or, leave a note for me here. I will then contact you via phone to record your account. Other visitors here might enjoy a brief summary of your recollections, of course. Great site, Thanks for making it available. While RATO sounds more technical, all i ever heard it called was JATO (Jet Assist Take Off). Surprised to learn that the fist RATO was internally mounted ! Just learned about the association. I was a crew chief at MacDill on one of the first B-47's to enter the air force (circa 1952). Later crewed a B-47E. Those were the GOOD days. Hope to make the next reunion. Was with the 305BW, 364th Squadron. Thanks for the website. Joe Parker, jparkerjr@hotmail.com

I too am a SAC veteran and agree with the previous statement about Boeing. I flew in the B model B-52s and previous to that was a crew chief on a B-47E. Boeings new 787 Dreamliner looks like its going to be a great airliner also
